Whether you have just found the Sound Off! message boards or have been a long-time member, please consider our NEW website, Military Brats Online.

The new website has been getting rave reviews from everyone--it's a real online community and much closer to the original vision I had for bringing Military Brats together.

Military Brats Online has discussion groups and personal blogs, your own photo gallery, private messages, Chat room and MANY other exciting features, including advanced searching so it's easy to find fellow Military Brats.

But what about Sound Off!--Will it remain available?
The Sound Off! message boards will remain active for a while, but will be archived later this year. We have not been able to integrate the Sound Off! system into the new website as the two website systems are not compatible.

Once you join Military Brats Online, you can go to "groups" and copy over as many of your discussion messages as you would like and keep the discussion threads going. Remember, your user ID and password for Sound Off! will NOT automatically work on the new website. You will need to sign up on Military Brats Online and create a new profile.

While Sound Off! has been very popular with many Military Brats, it has been a very limited message board system and the new website will offer far more features for re-connecting. I believe you will see that in the long run, the new website is a huge improvement and it is highly interactive.

I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and I thank you for your support of Military Brats Online.

In the beginning, it seemed to be a never ending adventure taking us (4girls, mother, father) a little of everywhere. Thats probably why I still enjoy traveling to this day. One of the most stressful parts of being a "brat" was making new friends every two or three years. I dealt with the most since I was the oldest and by the time the younger sisters came along, my father retired after 20 years of service , so they really didnt know what it was like having to make friends over and over again only to lose them over a short amount of time after really getting to know them. Since that time when my father retired(1987), I decided to join the military myself. I had finished two years of college before I joined in 1988. I spent 7 years in it until some unfortunate events caused my to decide to come to a close with my career But since that time there has been another thing that has puzzled me or even something I just dont understand.......I am a 36 year old Afican American woman but I have "never" been accepted in the black community as being truly "black" Why is that? Is it because I grew up in a diverse community of different cultures? Its like when I meet someone within that sector of life, a judgment has been passed upon you. You are accepted to a point, but its limited and still considered an outsider. I do have to say did experience this while I was growing up. I felt as though I had something wrong with me because of who I was. I also had problems with my self esteem because a number of black children didnt accept me for who I was and ended up with a variety of friends(namely caucasians)I had and still have no problem with whom I am friends with; I always thought I wasnt good enough or black enough or even pretty enough just to accpeted amoungst my own. Is it my walk? talk or what? For the longest time , I thought that I would end up dating others outside my ethnicity because those would be the only ones that would ask me out. Things havent changed really since that time. I was married to a wonderful black man while stationed in Europe and hit on by other black men while i was married in the military but once I got out and years later divorced, its the same game again, but I have come to accept that whomever accepts me for me no matter what I will be with them. thank you for the time to let this out of me and a forum to do this in where I can be understood..Maybe I may do some research on this subject because I know that I am not the only onw that has experienced this.
