Serving Military Brats Since 1995!"

Check out our NEW website . . .

Our "new" and improved website has everything you need to re-connect with your Military Brats friends and heritage.
"Invisible No More."

|

Whether you have just found the Sound Off! message boards or have been a long-time member,
please consider our NEW website, Military Brats Online.
The new website has been getting rave reviews from everyone--it's a real online community and much closer to the
original vision I had for bringing Military Brats together.
Military Brats Online has discussion groups and personal blogs, your own photo gallery,
private messages, Chat room and MANY other exciting features,
including advanced searching so it's easy to find fellow Military Brats.
But what about Sound Off!--Will it remain available?
The Sound Off! message boards will remain active for a while, but will be archived later this year. We have not been able to integrate the
Sound Off! system into the new website as the two website systems are not compatible.
Once you join Military Brats Online, you can go to "groups" and copy over as many of your discussion messages as you would like and keep the
discussion threads going. Remember, your user ID and password for Sound Off! will NOT automatically work on the new website. You will need to sign up on Military Brats Online
and create a new profile.
While Sound Off! has been very popular with many Military Brats, it has been a very limited message board
system and the new website will offer far more features for re-connecting. I believe you will see that in the
long run, the new website is a huge improvement and it is highly interactive.
I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and I thank you for your support of Military Brats Online.

Re: Brat Life: Adventure or Stressful (Re: SherBear)

I became a military brat around the age of two. My dad joined the Navy as an officer, and we moved from Mass. to Illinois. When i was seven i moved to Okinawa, Japan. I have to say that was rough. Moving across the world not knowing anyone but your family. I lived in Japan for seven years. I practically grew up there. It was my friends that were always leaving, and i was the one who stayed. It was hard having my friends leave, and then having to make new friends. I was the type to have one or two close friends at one time. It didn't really hit me until I left Okinawa when I was 14 years old. My father was getting out of the military and we were movinig to vermont where my mom's family was. I had to start high school in a civilian community, in a country i hadn't lived in almost eight years, not knowing anyone again, except for my family. The first year i lived here my dad was still in Japan. My mom, sister, and I had to move us in and make the house a home in a very short amount of time. I think that the hardest part about moving back was not growing up with the kids here. They all have childhood memories of each other. Some of them their memories go back to when they were infants or before they were even born. I only have the past four years with them. I keep in touch mainly with two of my friends from my military life. I am going to see one of them in a couple of weeks. I haven't seen her since i was 14 and i now i am going down the coast to share my 18th bday with her. My parents are now divorced, as most military families end up doing. I am still adjusting to the civilian world. Often times i wish i was back on a base. I feel a lot safer on bases and can relate better to people who are in the military or brats of military parents. Bein an officers kid isn't easy either. Sometimes it comes in handy though when you don't want certain people around you. All you have to do is whip out the ID card and say don't mess with my dad is an officer. But some people tend to get skiddish around you when they realize what rank your parents are.
