Check out our NEW website . . .

Military Brats Online

Our "new" and improved website has everything you need
to re-connect with your Military Brats friends and heritage.

"Invisible No More."

Sound Off!
Whether you have just found the Sound Off! message boards or have been a long-time member, please consider our NEW website, Military Brats Online.

The new website has been getting rave reviews from everyone--it's a real online community and much closer to the original vision I had for bringing Military Brats together.

Military Brats Online has discussion groups and personal blogs, your own photo gallery, private messages, Chat room and MANY other exciting features, including advanced searching so it's easy to find fellow Military Brats.

But what about Sound Off!--Will it remain available?
The Sound Off! message boards will remain active for a while, but will be archived later this year. We have not been able to integrate the Sound Off! system into the new website as the two website systems are not compatible.

Once you join Military Brats Online, you can go to "groups" and copy over as many of your discussion messages as you would like and keep the discussion threads going. Remember, your user ID and password for Sound Off! will NOT automatically work on the new website. You will need to sign up on Military Brats Online and create a new profile.

While Sound Off! has been very popular with many Military Brats, it has been a very limited message board system and the new website will offer far more features for re-connecting. I believe you will see that in the long run, the new website is a huge improvement and it is highly interactive.

I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and I thank you for your support of Military Brats Online.

A Coast Guard brat.....Dad was at a Veteran's Day Parade with the crew from his ship when Mom went into labor. Born in Tampa. Moved to Norfolk when I was 3. Then to Sabine Pass, TX and then Brownsville, TX. Dad was an Engineman and when he made Warrant he was transferred to the Campbell in New York city and moved us to Va. Beach (sound familiar). He retired as a CWO (2) in 1966 and we moved "home" to Tampa. As far as I was concerned, home was Norfolk/Va. Beach. Dad has passed and rests in Biloxi National Cemetery. Mom has just left us. I have been researching Dad's records and files and am building a shadow box with ribbons, medals and pictures. I am 58 now and would love to hear from any of the friends I made over the years............and new ones too.....

All three of us were born in Japan and only I was made in the USA. We moved to Goldsboro, AFB when I was almost three and stayed there until I was about seven. We moved to Germany in 1964 and lived on the economy twice as we waited for base housing. I got fairly proficient at German and loved it. We returned stateside in late March or early April of 1968. A man, of whom I'd never heard was assassinated and a few months later, so was another. Those two incidents were my "welcome," to the USA as the years from 3-6 had very little meaning for me at the time.

It would take me over twenty years to get over the fear, outrage and intolerance I felt for this country I was expected to call home. It is only within the past few years that I have come to appreciate and fiercely love it. I continue to feel and live as if I am an outsider. "BRATS: Our Journey Home came into my life 3/10/07 a validated what I have suspected for a long time. My experiences growing up as a "brat," shaped my life; for better or for worse. I would not change places with a civilian for the world. I will be working to heal and unify the experience of having been raised by a military man for rest of my life. I look forward to it with more hope knowing that it is, "not just me."

Re: Heritage (Re: Exile)

My heritage comes from two Air Force parents, an Army Grandfather, and a Marine Grandfather.
