Serving Military Brats Since 1995!"

Check out our NEW website . . .

Our "new" and improved website has everything you need to re-connect with your Military Brats friends and heritage.
"Invisible No More."

|

Whether you have just found the Sound Off! message boards or have been a long-time member,
please consider our NEW website, Military Brats Online.
The new website has been getting rave reviews from everyone--it's a real online community and much closer to the
original vision I had for bringing Military Brats together.
Military Brats Online has discussion groups and personal blogs, your own photo gallery,
private messages, Chat room and MANY other exciting features,
including advanced searching so it's easy to find fellow Military Brats.
But what about Sound Off!--Will it remain available?
The Sound Off! message boards will remain active for a while, but will be archived later this year. We have not been able to integrate the
Sound Off! system into the new website as the two website systems are not compatible.
Once you join Military Brats Online, you can go to "groups" and copy over as many of your discussion messages as you would like and keep the
discussion threads going. Remember, your user ID and password for Sound Off! will NOT automatically work on the new website. You will need to sign up on Military Brats Online
and create a new profile.
While Sound Off! has been very popular with many Military Brats, it has been a very limited message board
system and the new website will offer far more features for re-connecting. I believe you will see that in the
long run, the new website is a huge improvement and it is highly interactive.
I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and I thank you for your support of Military Brats Online.

...you ever said the word "civilians" with disdain. ...you left the life and 20 years later lived directly under the path of off-taking jets from the base .5 mi. away, and ran outside to watch their bellies pass over you head and felt a thrill, and did not at all care what the neighbors thought. ...you felt a little odd being the only kid who spell everyone's surname correctly when you went to a civilian school. ...you get a little perplexed over which of the dozen answers you've devised over the years to give to the question, "Where are you from?" ...you find yourself deeply conflicted by your feelings about going to this new war. ...you don't understand what your kids are going through because they've gone to the same school for 4 years in a row, from the first, and it doesn't look like they are going to change for another 2 more!! ...you want to get in a plane and go somewhere. ANYWHERE!!!! ...you felt really and truly insulted the terrorists used PLANES to fly into buildings on September 11. ...you worked construction on an air force base and managed to maneuver yourself into position at the end of the building JUST as the F-16's were doing their daily FCF's. ...you love the smell of an airfield. ...you meet a kid in a bar and tell him to please take very good care and come home safe, and try not to picture him in a body bag as you do it. ...you love all war movies, no matter how corny, Hollywood-ish, or racist. ...you are a liberal, can't stand GW, hate his administration & policies, but wanted to put your 41-year-old female self into a uniform on 9/11 and spear a terrorist at the end of the bayonet on the end of your M-16. ...you thought sashimi was the "bomb" long before it became nouvelle cuisine. ...your 4th of July has moved to September 11.
This is my first posting. My mother sent me the book "Military Brats". It took me 2 or 3 years to read it. I did so last month when the computer was down, and vowed to come here after I got it back. I never quite understood until I read that book why I felt so out of place in so many places, and why. Any why I have the conflicting political views I do.
20 years ago I met a retired enlisted man, 30 years Army, in the Miami Int'l. Airport while awaiting a plane to visit Jamaican relatives. As we talked, we realized right away each had former military association, and he told me it would take me 20 more years to settle down. HOW DID HE KNOW? He was only half right on target. It took me 10.
I've never been here before yesterday, don't know anybody, but I feel right at home. I can't be the only one that's said that.
