Military Brats Online

Our "new" and improved website has everything you need
to re-connect with your Military Brats friends and heritage.

"Invisible No More."

Sound Off!
Whether you have just found the Sound Off! message boards or have been a long-time member, please consider our NEW website, Military Brats Online.

The new website has been getting rave reviews from everyone--it's a real online community and much closer to the original vision I had for bringing Military Brats together.

Military Brats Online has discussion groups and personal blogs, your own photo gallery, private messages, Chat room and MANY other exciting features, including advanced searching so it's easy to find fellow Military Brats.

But what about Sound Off!--Will it remain available?
The Sound Off! message boards will remain active for a while, but will be archived later this year. We have not been able to integrate the Sound Off! system into the new website as the two website systems are not compatible.

Once you join Military Brats Online, you can go to "groups" and copy over as many of your discussion messages as you would like and keep the discussion threads going. Remember, your user ID and password for Sound Off! will NOT automatically work on the new website. You will need to sign up on Military Brats Online and create a new profile.

While Sound Off! has been very popular with many Military Brats, it has been a very limited message board system and the new website will offer far more features for re-connecting. I believe you will see that in the long run, the new website is a huge improvement and it is highly interactive.

I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and I thank you for your support of Military Brats Online.

That last quote pushed one of my buttons. The cavalier attitude many people apply to starting times astounds me. I know there will be exceptions, traffic delays, etc. from time to time but I am astounded by the number of people who stroll in 5, 10, 15 minutes after the stated start time of an event (e.g., meeting, school play, seminar). If the event hasn't been similarly delayed (same issue), they then disrupt those of us who are trying to focus on it. Delays serve as disrespect to the event organizers and the on-time arrivals who are kept waiting. My stomache is in knots if I am even a couple minutes late to an event.

    You were in Scouts overseas and went to the Marine Quartermaster to "sign-out" your camping gear and, after your hike to the camp area an Air Force "Deuce and a Half" towing a Field Kitchen comes in to prepare your meals for the duration of the camp-out.. Made it tough to earn your Tenderfoot rank ;-}

I remember being a member of Troop 24 at Barksdale in the late 1970s. The troop was sponsored by the 8AF HQ and one of my fellow "Panther Patrol" members was the Wing Commander's son. We were spoiled - we got to help restore the B-17 as a service project, never had a problem finding a campsite on base or arranging transportation, etc. The situation was similar when I transferred to Troop 992 at Wurtsmith. Needing transport to the headwaters of the Au Sable for a canoe trip? The transportation Squadron was happy to provide a couple of GIs, a flatbed, and a bus for the trip.

Later, as an Assistant Scoutmaster with an off-base troop outside Little Rock AFB, we enlisted the wing Vice-Commander as another Assistant. We offered to host the district camporee, which we gave an aviation theme, and "acquired" a C-130 for a merit badge class and arranged for a Marine F/A-18 to fly-over during the opening ceremony.

. . .you have to move to truly clean house, because you don't know how to avoid accumulating "junk" when you stay in one place more than 3 years.

. . .your prayers include the U. S. military every single day, even when there's nothing "official" going on in the world, militarily.

That moving one really hits home for me. LOL. I've been in my current apartment for 3 years and am going through a move......Man do I have a lot of stuff to go through.

Yeah, Boy Scouts with the military did have advantages. Transportation was readily available, subject matter experts in almost any field were right at hand for merit badges, and goodies from surplus stores could be obtained for camping.

We had set camp one time when a troop from an Air Force base pulled in next to us in their bus. Got out lawn mowers to cut down the weeds, ran electric lights (operated by their generator), and had a refrigerator for their food.

I believe the Air Force still considers a motel with no pool as roughing it.

... You woke up in the morning and decided on a whim to go to Smurf Park, Europa Park, etc.

... You know where those parks are.

... You decided as a kid that getting into your mom's MRE stash was better than going to McDonald's.

... You know that real Bratwurst is white not red!!
